Hello and Happy New Year!

I am here on LiveJournal as I have decided to take up the challenge of reading 50 books during the year, and this blog will record my progress. I'll be interested to find out just how much I read, as I'm never quite sure.

50bookchallenge guidelines are quite broad, allowing you to 'count whatever makes you happy'; I'm going to impose the following rules on myself:

• I must start and finish each book within the 2008 calendar year.
• I have to read the book through properly, not just browse.
• Omnibus volumes count as a single book; each book in a box-set counts separately.
• Graphic novels can count towards my total.
• Magazines can count, as long as they're the kind I would read cover to cover (I'm thinking mostly of fiction magazines here).
• Newspapers cannot count, even if I read them all the way through.
• Electronic publications can't count, however long they are.
• Each individual work counts as one book, whatever its length.

I'll be commenting on what I think of each book, though some will get longer treatments elsewhere, as I review books occasionally (which I will continue to keep track of here). And, although this blog is here primarily for the 50 book challenge, I may well end up posting on other stuff; we'll see what happens.
